I come across this video earlier today that shows flight patterns for the United States. It sounds boring, but it’s not; the simulation is really cool and and fun to look at. For a few minutes. While I was initially awed by the sheer number of flights in a day in the United States, it dawned on me pretty quickly how much CO2 the average plane trip produces and the novelty of the video dissolved away to a feeling of nausea. It’s a tough balance deciding between what is environmentally sound for this world and indulging in my love of travel, but watching this thing makes me want to walk or bike everywhere. Dammit.
