Back at the airport after a whirlwind weekend of friends, food, runs and wedding events. My favorite Portland moment: running Mt. Tabor at sunset and seeing everyone in all of their dressed up glory. My least favorite Portland moment: navigating the car around the stupid hipster bikers that insist on riding on Portland’s high traffic roads when there are plentiful bike lanes TWO BLOCKS OVER!!. Christ. What is wrong with these people? It’s one thing to ride on roads when you can move with traffic, it’s another to chug along on a fixie while completely oblivious to my righteous anger and the twenty cars piled behind you. You stupid, arrogant, motherfuc
Starting on a positive note, the NYT Magazine has a good article about Spike Jonze and his almost decade long effort to make Where the Wild Things into a live action movie. I am so ridiculously excited about this thing that I actually tear up a bit when I watch the trailer. Don’t judge me.
Time Magazine has a inane article examining why exercise won’t make you thin. I accept the premise that exercise can stimulate hunger, resulting in you eating more, but what retarded diet advocates fries as recovery food? Exercise and healthy food = less fat people to annoy me.
Along the same lines, the NYT reports that the Smart Choice program, which labels food with a green checkmark to indicate a “healthy food option” has deemed items like Cocoa Krispies and Fruit Loops as healthy. Which predictably has stirred the ire of nutritionists. Those shifty bastards just don’t understand the awesomeness of Fruit Loops.
Along healthier lines, Heidi Swanson, who has apparently moved to France (I’m sorry about the thing I did outside the bushes. You weren’t supposed to see that), has a tasty little recipe up for Peanut Butter Krispy Treats.
And here is the HD Trailer for the new documentary Race Across the Sky, about the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. It mostly features Lance and Dave Wiens, but I’m hoping to spot Max in there somewhere.
Sorry about the still simmering anger. Portland really was a great time, and I’m sad to bid it adieu until the next time. Hope everyone is having a good post-holiday start to the week.
